Thanks to Brandon Curry, Oxygen Gym can now say that they have an Olympic champion in their luggage. There were many competitors who moved to Kuwait to train at Bader Boodai's Oxygen Gym, but not many were as impressive as Brandon where they went and brought back a complete package.
If you're not a top bodybuilder and don't receive an invitation to travel to Kuwait, the monthly workout at the Oxygen Gym will cost you around $ 160 (yes, that's a month). That being said, you can consider it Kuwait's Gold Venice (just a million times more beautiful). If you want to grow a lot, Oxygen Gym is for you.
Who was under the watchful eye of Oxygen Gym?
As mentioned above, Brandon Curry is sitting on the throne. He was trained by Abbdullah Al Otaibi. Overseas they call him the "Pro-Maker". Not to be confused with Hany Rambod, the "pro creator". Abbdullah would literally follow Brandon and make sure that everything he does prepares him for success. Will Brandon return to Kuwait for another productive off-season? Personally, I think so. But then you have people like Big Ramy, Victor Martinez, Nathan De Asha, Regan Grimes, Roelly Winklaar, Breon Ansley and Ahmad Ashkanani who all trained in the Oxygen Gym.
But let's look at some of the above types. Roelly Winklaar is one of the bigger names that train in the Oxygen Gym. He is one of the biggest competitors entering a bodybuilding phase (it doesn't matter where that phase is). The crew in the Oxygen Gym doesn't seem to improve Roelly's conditioning, however. It comes in softly at almost every Olympic appearance. Ultimately, its conditioning is its kryptonite. That kills him every year at the Olympics.
When Victor went to Kuwait, he came back and looked close to its heyday. However, it was never enough to surpass the lineups he faced on major shows. Big Ramy can be categorized as Roelly. Ramy doesn't seem to nail his conditioning. He is soft and watery at almost every Olympia that has placed him behind Phil and others in the rankings. If he could have nailed his conditioning and matched it, he could have been Mr. Olympia for many years.
Breon is someone who seemed to be under the radar in the Oxygen Gym. However, his physique showed drastic improvements when he won the Men's Classic Physique Olympia in Kuwait in 2018. Another competitor who was fairly calm overseas and had a short-lived stay was Regan. Grimes had to leave Kuwait early for health reasons, but looking back at the few months he was there, it was said that he had built up about 50 pounds of pure muscle – pretty crazy (must be something in the water).
You spoke a big game
It seemed like Bader and the Camel crew were talking about a big game every year about the package that guys like Ramy would put on stage. They kept saying, "This is Ramy's year." But if Ramy showed up, everyone would be disappointed (for another year in a row) by what he brought to Vegas. It was pretty quiet in the 2019 off-season, and little was said about anyone other than Brandon leading up to the Olympics. Sure, you would have bathroom pictures of Roelly in the magic mirror, but otherwise no view from Kuwait.
If Brandon wins the Olympics in 2019, it could bring the spark back to Oxygen Gym to talk a little again.
As I said before, I think Brandon will return to the Oxygen Gym in 2020 to prepare for the Olympics and keep his title. But who is ready to take the long flight to Kuwait and train under Abbdullah?
If I were to look into my crystal ball and see who would be next to travel to the Oxygen Gym, I would say that the open competitors of the following men will do the trek: Nobody. Wait what? That's right. Nobody. Apart from the regular guests (Roelly, Brandon, Ramy, De Asha), I don't see anyone going to Kuwait.
Bonac is a family man and I don't think he will leave his family to live in Kuwait. Cedric will not pass over due to his obligations to the military. Hadi is well placed under Hany Rambod and at the Olympics, so I very much doubt that he will drop Hany to go. Phil may never set foot on a bodybuilding stage again, and if he does, it will be under Hany's watch. Dexter or Kuclo? Nope. No chance. Juan Morel? Nope. Luke Sandoe? Unlikely. Akim Williams? Doubtful. Patrick Moore? Holy balls, Batman. Can you imagine what this newcomer would look like if he went to Kuwait and put on more size? He would look absolutely crazy.
Well, I think that was a disappointment. Oxygen Gym, in my opinion, better dairy people like Brandon, Roelly and Ramy for everything that is worth it. They also pray better that one of these three men wins the Olympics every year if they want to stay on top. All it would take is a Phil comeback to rain on their parade.
