Spenser Confidential / Netflix
Mark Wahlberg wants revenge in the first trailer for Netflix's Spenser Confidential. In the new film, Wahlberg plays an ex-cop who is released from prison after five years and tries to take in the parts of life he has left behind.
Wahlberg works with his frequent co-worker, director Peter Berg – the two have worked on Lone Survivor, Patriots Day, Mile 22 and Deepwater Horizon – along with Black Panther star Winston Duke, who plays Hawk, an aspiring MMA fighter , Wahlbergs Spencer hires Hawk, his former boxing coach Henry (Alan Arkin) and ex-girlfriend Cissy (Iliza Shlesinger) to investigate the case, including dirty bulls, a drug cartel, and politicians who have blamed Spenser for his crimes.
The film is based on Robert B. Parker's book series of Spenser novels, particularly Wonderland, written by Ace Atkins after Parker passed away. The film has a certain personal meaning for Wahlberg because he saw the Spenser: For Hire TV show in Boston in the 1980s, which was also based on the character and the book series.
"It was actually shot in Boston, so it was really one of the few times I've seen areas where I grew up and was familiar with on TV," said Wahlberg when he saw the trailer on the Ellen DeGeneres show debuted.
