Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s Solo ‘Black Adam’ DC Movie Will get Official Launch Date

Dwayne Johnson at Rampage movie premiere

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson joins the DC Entertainment Universe as an evil super villain. Johnson will play Black Adam in his own solo film Black Adam, and the movie has an official release date: December 22, 2021. Johnson has posted on Instagram the news of the antihero's playing, announced an official release, and added more info about how excited he is to play the character.

Johnson wrote, "The man in black. Like most children, I dreamed of being a superhero. Cool superpowers have to fight for what is right and always protect the people. That changed for me when I was 10 years old and for the first time met the greatest superhero ever – SUPERMAN. As a child, Superman was the hero I always wanted to be. A few years after my imagination, I realized that Superman was the hero I could never be. I was too rebellious. Too wild. Convention and authority are too consistent. Despite my problems, I was still a good kid with a good heart – I just liked to do things my way. Now, years later as a man, with the same DNA I had as a kid, my dreams of superheroes have come true. I'm honored to join icon #DCUniverse, and it's a pleasure to become BLACK ADAM. BLACK ADAM is blessed by magic with the same powers as SUPERMAN, but the difference is that it neither reaches the mark nor exceeds the limit. He is a rebellious, unique superhero who always does what is right for people – but he does it in his own way. Truth and Justice – the BLACK ADAM way. This role is unlike any I have ever played in my career, and I am grateful that we will all take this journey together. BLACK ADAM 12.22.21 ⚡️ "

The Man in Black ⚡️ Like most children, I dreamed of being a superhero. Too wild. Conventional and governmentally resistant. BLACK ADAM is blessed by magic with the same powers as SUPERMAN. This post has been updated. It was originally written in January 2019.

After a few years as a fan of nefarious Black Adam, Johnson will officially receive his own stand-alone Black Adam movie from New Line Cinema and DC Comics, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The original Shazam film is now divided into two projects: one with Shazam and another followed by Black Adam alone.

Johnson teased some key news regarding the character after meeting with DC at their main offices last week. Now it is safe to say that sitting was very productive.

Had a very cool and strategic meeting with the DC Directors over their entire universe. As a die-hard DC fan I was very happy to get a feel for the sound shifts and developments in these future films. We all waited a long time as DC fans. Hope, optimism and fun. Even when it comes to the most ruthless villain / anti-hero of all time, who is finally brought to life. Get ready for the DC universe. #KneelAtHisFeet #OrGetCrushedByHisBoot # BlackAdam⚡️

While Black Adam may not quite know the name Batman or Superman, the character has existed since 1945 and she has been part of the DC comic world since 1973. He has a wide range of abilities, including superhuman strength, speed, stamina and wisdom, as well as melee skills. So yes, it sounds like Johnson fits in well.

It's not a real shock to see Johnson getting his own movie, considering he's the highest paid actor in the world. But the news opens up some very interesting and entertaining possibilities: Will Johnson's Black Adam interact with Superman (Henry Cavill) in future films? Will he be an anti-hero rather than a villain, considering he is "The Rock"?

DC has a lot of opportunities to explore – and now they have one of the most popular actors in the world in their stable with overpowering characters.
