Did Derek Lunsford Chase Flex Lewis Out of the 212?

by Christian Duque

Ok … where are the hidden cameras? Are we in an episode of Punk’d? Let's go ahead and answer this obvious question from the beginning with a clear, clear HELL-NO! I like Derek and I admire his confidence. I also admire his ability to keep a straight face, even if (as you would hope) he was fun.

When Lunsford made half of the above statement and completed his appearance at MD Global Muscle, he had to expect a reaction. This was not a question of attitude, the hosts didn't want to attack him and Derek was in full control. This was a brilliant move in terms of shock value, but maybe I perceived it differently than you. Let's end the first paragraph of the article with a question. How did you take up Derek's statement that Flex Lewis left after joining the 212 division? The hosts laughed. I was shocked. What was your reaction

With that in mind, I would like to say that I am a huge fan of MD Global Muscle and I am thrilled that they have just started their second season! It's no secret that I'm a big supporter of Muscular Development, had a short series there, and am actively buying the magazines. I think Ron Harris has done a fantastic job as the online editor-in-chief, from his Ronline report to the complete overhaul and revision of the message boards. The addition of Giles and A.J. has also breathed new life into the website and magazine. These guys live and breathe bodybuilding and do absolutely amazing work.

In that sense, I'm also a fan of Derek and Flex. I know Derek and he has always been very nice to me. We did several interviews and I think he's a great person. I am also a fan of Flex and consider him probably the greatest 212 bodybuilder of all time. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Flex dominated the 212 much more convincingly than Phil Heath the Open. Lewis & # 39; physique, posturing and the urge to win were simply unprecedented. He won seven times in a row and decided to go ahead and leave the division at the top. In my opinion, to give others a chance. That too is just my opinion.

2019 was the very first Olympia I participated in. My good friend Dan Solomon made sure I got press passes, and I could watch the action from close up on the stage. With that said, I was really looking forward to seeing what all the hype (behind Derek) was about. He had a fantastic beginner year, looked good when he finished second before Flex and I was really excited to see what he would bring.

However, my colleagues in the press disappointed me when they saw how established legends were treated. Top people, especially people who pushed Flex Lewis to the limit years ago, like David Henry, Eduardo Correa and Ahmad Ashkanani, saw themselves practically ignored. The guy who would win the title, the Libyan lion, Kamal Elgargni, literally came out of nowhere. People were so dark about him that they feverishly flipped through their programs when the MC called his name. Some had no idea who he was.

Once prejudices started, I had it as a fight between Kamal and Shaun. I think Shaun had a very legitimate claim to second place and beat Kamal in certain poses. Shaun, like everyone else, received little to no media attention prior to the competition. Hell, David Henry and Guy Cisternino had to win competitions after the Olympics to remind the media that they were ready to fight and newsworthy.

We all know what happened at the 2019 212 Olympics Showdown and I was hoping it would be a learning experience. I was hoping Derek would kneel down, escape the media fanfare, and concentrate on working towards the title. I believed him when he said that he didn't ask to be the obvious heir in 2019. I have blamed the media for putting him in the spotlight. In my opinion, it was the fault of the media that put all this unwanted pressure on the shoulders of this poor child. Who knows, maybe he could have done better if they just left him alone?

Well, exactly at this time in the last month, Derek made a video saying that he was 2nd. I almost wrote an article about it, but decided against it. Now he's on a show with MD and suggests that he chased away the Welsh dragon James "Flex" Lewis. Perhaps I am mistaking his statements. What is your opinion?

That is the deal. This is simply my reaction to a very bizarre statement about a very good bodybuilding program that I'm looking at. I earn the same amount of money if this article gets my usual readings or if it goes viral. I don't want to become famous by responding to others' words, and I definitely don't want to troll someone. Apart from that, I am a journalist and as a journalist I have to report on the news.

As for the character, you take Derek at his best and put him next to Flex in his most vulnerable 212 showdown win, and I still think Flex wins handy. This is not a blow to Lunsford. Flex Lewis is the best, winning seven years in a row and staying on top. Even the year Derek finished second, nobody in the hall thought Lunsford would overthrow Lewis – it just wasn't that close. And what's worse, if Derek continues poking Lewis, Lewis may have to pull an Arnold 80 train. If only Frank Zane hadn't brought up this universe gain, Arnold might never have come back. Even when Zane made this comment, he was a 3x Mr. Olympia. If Derek had won in 2019, even in the absence of Lewis, that kind of statement about MD Global Muscle might have had at least some credibility, but he was hit in 2019 and hit by a man who was almost twice his age was like him and who had no hype or press behind him.

Kamal is king. He will do everything he can to successfully defend his title – you can rely on that!

When it comes to competitors, there is a lot of hunger and a lot of cold shoulder anger that the media has given them all over the past year. People like Clarida, Henry and Cisternino, to name a few, will return with all their might! I'm pretty sure they didn't like to be ignored and I'm sure they won't allow themselves to do it again.

The bottom line is that Lunsford's statement triggered a reaction from me. I like Derek, I think he's a damn good competitor, but whether he was just kidding or trying to make waves was entirely up to you, the reader. It definitely got a reaction from me – obviously !!
