Arnold Schwarzenegger – bodybuilder, actor, governor, climate change activist and … president? It is of course impossible for the seven-time Mr. Olympia to ever become commander-in-chief, but playing a fictional film has made him think about what it would be like to sit in the Oval Office.
"It would have been fun to sit here and have the strength and work with the world to solve these problems and take on these challenges," he said in a recent interview with The Atlantic. "Yes, of course I'm thinking about it."
While Schwarzenegger, who was born in Austria, was able to act as governor of California, the constitution requires that every president be a native of that country. So unfortunately we will never see Arnold's bulging biceps in the situation room.
But in Kung Fury 2, an upcoming martial arts comedy film to be released later this year, we can see how that could have been. In it Arnold plays alongside David Hasselhoff, Michael Fassbender and Alexandra Shipp a cigarette president.
"So since we don't have a comprehensive immigration reform and a citizen born abroad cannot run as president, it is fun to become president," he said.
Arnold says he can't complain about the fact that he can never be a real life president. "I also think about it," Wait a minute, you can't really complain too much about it, "because everything that has been accomplished in my life is due to America," he told The Atlantic.
That didn't stop him from contributing to presidential affairs either – he's a staunch critic of President Donald Trump. In his interview, he says that he, not Trump, is a true Republican.
"If you look at Ronald Reagan or President Nixon or President Lincoln, they were people fighting for equality," he said. "I'm inclusive. I understand myself that way." Schwarzenegger once said famously that Trump "wants to be me".
"I don't think he's happy in his skin," he said at the Atlantic Festival last year. "He wants to be a great, hardworking guy who looks good and is muscular, who doesn't have a stomach sticking out – all these things."
Kung Fury 2 is a sequel to the 2015 short film Kung Fury, which tells the story of the toughest martial artist who has gone through the years of defeating the worst criminal of all – Kung Führer, aka Adolf Hitler.
In Kung Fury 2, a mysterious villain appears to help the guide get the ultimate weapon and rule the world. The title character, Kung Fury, has to travel through time and space to defeat evil once and for all.
